Ovidiu Teodorescu

Ovidiu Teodorescu

He was born on 19.02.1946 in Moreni, Dambovita county and works as a design technician. The young man was attracted to the art. He practiced his talent in graphics, painted in watercolor and oil. But the passion of his life is sculpture in metal, and the novelty of his work, mostly composed of icons, is the method used. On a plasticine support, place the brass or copper sheet, which then beats it until it lands and takes the desired form: the Savior, the Virgin Mary, the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, the Holy Trinity, etc. For over 30 years, the artist Ovidiu Teodorescu has turned metal into art. He also holds a record in the Orthodox space, the icon titled "The Birth of the Lord" (97 cm / 55 cm), made in brass, being, apparently, the greatest work of its kind.

Metalopastia, as specialists call the art of carving in metal, requires a lot of attention, patience and skill, because, like the jeweler, the artist has to be eye-to-the-smallest when trying to "bang" the hardness of the metal.

After 1990, Teodorescu exhibited from Sibiu to Targoviste and from Bucharest to Targu Mures. But the most prized exhibitions are those held in Lisbon, Portugal, in the "People's Day" event, a cultural event supported by the city hall.

Mr. Teodorescu had a great success in Lisbon, where he sold half of the exhibits. The Portuguese bought his works, excited by the novelty of the icons. He also helped the Romanian Orthodox Parish "Entrance of Our Lady to the Garden" in the capital of Portugal, especially the parish priest Marius Viorel Pop, and the Embassy of Romania in Lisbon.

Through his work, he hoped to have spoken to the Portuguese about the love of God and the beauty of the Romans.

Conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra-Cluj.
Bucharest - National Military Circle - April 2001

"It is the first time to have a chance to admire a metalloplasty exhibition on religious themes.
Everything that exposes here is totally different. The look of the saints scares you through the naturalness and authenticity with which it is rendered. I think it is something unique that has been exposed so far. "
